Samuel Andrew Peters(1735-1826) Anglican Loyalist clergyman and author
of General History of Connecticut, by a Gentleman of the Province.
Although born in Connecticut, his loathing of American
republicanism led him to flee to England before the outbreak of the
American Revolution. He returned in 1805 and died in New York City
in 1826.
The Frogs of Windham (1781)
Taken from General History of Connecticut, the title refers to a
bizarre incident wherein a parade of frogs 40 yards wide and four
miles long made their way through the town of Windham in the middle
of the night on their way to the Winnomantic River. Operating
under the mistaken assumption that the town was under attack by the
French and Indians, several persons died in the chaos that
followed.
