Suffer Reviews

Bad Religion returns with one hell of a record
This was the first album after the band got back together in 1987 and boy was it ever! Bad Religion jumpstarted the So-Cal skate-punk scene with this album and it's clear to see the influence on bands like Pulley and Pennywise. They were the first of their kind, they brought blistering fast hardcore punk beats combined it with great melodicism, lyrics, guitar work, and production. They had it all and then some. SUFFER is one of those essential Bad Religion records.

A PERFECT SCORE! Just buy it dammit! Trust me it's good.

If I could give this album 4 1/2 stars I would.
This is the first installment of the revamped Bad Religion after a 2 or 3 year hiatus. It's combined the early sounds of HOW COULD HELL BE ANY WORSE? and the later more melodic BACK TO THE KNOWN. Many people say that this is the best Bad Religion record and most of their 90's worked sucked. I disagree entirely, this is a band just starting to get it's stride, and it in no way compares to the musicianship of GENERATOR or STRANGER THAN FICTION. But all in all this is an incredible album, especially if you are a big fan of punk rock (which I am not), this along with the first ramones LP, Sex Pistols: NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS, the OPIV LP, DAMAGED by Black Flag, and anything by the Dead Kennedys. This is one of those albums that you can't be a punk rocker and not own.

1. You Are (The Government) 9/10
2. 1000 More Fools (10/10)
3. How Much Is Enough? (9/10)
4. When? (8/10)
5. Give You Nothing (9/10)
6. Land of Competition (8/10)
7. Forbidden Beat (10/10) One of the best BR songs ever.
8. Best for You (10/10)
9. Suffer (9/10)
10. Delirium of Disorder (9/10)
11. Part II (The Numbers Game) (8/10)
12. What Can You Do? (10/10) Very melodic, fastpaced, perfect.
13. Do What You Want (10/10) Short & sweet. The first BR song that I ever listened to, it got me hooked.
14. Part IV (The Index Fossil) (10/10)
15. Pessimistic Lines (10/10)

About as Good as Punk Can Get
I own a wide range of punk albums, from the old (London Calling, Never Mind the Bullocks) to the kind of old (Machine Gun Etiquette) to the modern (Punk in Drublic, ...And Out Come the Wolves). Out of all the great punk bands that I've heard and all the albums I listen to, not a single album keeps me coming back as often as Suffer. To me this is as good as punk can sound and as much as punk can offer. While all the songs do sound the same, the melodic, pounding beats and riffs produced by this band are so enjoyable that you won't mind the song similarity, and the incredibly deep and meaningful lyrics are a surprisingly satisfying bonus. No band will ever sound like BR and no punk album will ever be as great as Suffer. Buy this if you don't already own it. And if you're a punk fan and you don't own it, well then just kill yourself.

a very good punk album
I'm not too huge into punk, but I picked this up and found that it was very good. Usually, I find myself bored to death hearing the same thing over and over again for 30 minutes, but Bad religion cover a huge range of topics, and are oddly diverse for a punk band. And for you new "punks", this is no avril lavigne. This is real punk, so stay away.

A true punk classic
It is amazing how much melody and tunefulness Bad Reluigion can induce into these breakneck-speed punk classics. Every song is catchy enough to play in your head afterwards. Greg Graffin's lyrics are intelligent and reasonable without trying to be too clever or witty. There are absolutely no fillers on this album. This mixature of melodic punk and hardcore is highly recommended for any punk rock fans. Also, although I haven't heard the original, the remastering seems to work wonder, because this ROCKS.
