Pretty Good
This album has mostly party songs, which is alright, but I like a mix of tracks. Will Smith writes good lyrics, as shown in the whole album, but in the track "Willow is a Player" at the end of every line he puts it in a singing voice, which sounds pretty wierd in my point of view. Some of the songs just don't make sense, but its alright. And in "I Can't Stop," that Latin beat just shouldn't go with rap.
Now it sounds like I hate this album, which I don't, I just think it could be better. Tra-Knox really helps out Will on this album, they sound good. Jada's a seriously good singer in "1000 Kisses." And I give mad props to "Block Party," it reminds me of "Summertime." Personally, I like Will Smith as the Fresh Prince and "Block Party" is like a Fresh Prince song. In "Black Suits Comin (Nod Ya Head)," it sounds like Jazzy Jeff scratching in the background of the chorus but I can't tell. I hope Will and Jazzy get together for more songs, they're seriously a dynamic rap duo.
"Born to Reign," the song, has got some seriously ill lyrics. And so does "Black Suits Comin (Nod Ya Head)" which, ironically enough, the song really makes you want to do. This album doesn't really show Will's humor, but it does show his talent.Good Songs (in order):
1 - Block Party
2 - Black Suits Comin (Nod Ya Head)
3 - Born To Reign
...
Yep, yep...Will Smith is back (nod ya' head)
I've been a fan of this historic rapper since his days in the late 80's with sidekick "Fresh Prince." All his albums are not only totally fresh sounding, but also very hardcore...to the point of scaring me a bit! Like LL Cool J before him, this guy lays down phat, irony-free lyrics, loaded with a poppish sound and a power to move mountains!! In fact, when I first heard the huge summer hit, "Black Suits Comin' (Nod Ya Head)", not only was I noddin' my head, but I also couldn't wait to see the hit summer blockbuster, "Men In Black II"!
Alls I can say is, check this album out. It's full of positive energy, summer fun, and it gives you an inside glimpse of MIB II, possibly one of the best movies ever released!!
The earlier reviewer who suggested this might be the "Best Rap Album of 2002" wasn't going far enough. To me, this is the best rap record to hit the shelves in a decade....
Nod ya' head, nod ya' head....
Will still reigns...and its kidsafe too! GREAT CD
First let me say that ANY album with a full length photo of Will on the front gets my vote for aesthetics from the outset! Second, why do all these rap lovers insist that Will has lost his edge because he refuses to cuss and talk dirty and plan cop killings and gang wars? This album is fabulous ~ and PLEASE don't say I am not a "real" rap fan because I am. It's just so hard to find any "real" rap anymore that is clean enough for me to care about it! This disc covers that criteria and still delivers great rhymes, sexy monogamy rap (and that IS what's really sexy about this guy - whoever heard of a rap star that loves home and hearth and wife and kids?). Finally, this CD also delivers fun fun fun on cuts like, Nod Ya Head! Life is good for Will and what's wrong with that...he makes me happy just looking at him (I meeeean...JUST LOOK AT HIM...) and when I play his music, all the better. He's a neat guy, a family man, great looking, talented actor and even more talented rapper. Don't let the gangstas get to you Will...you keep it real and we'll keep buying it! Yeah, us "real" rap lovers love this CD!!
Will Smith, stick with the Acting!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will Smith, they need to lock up the studio to keep you away, or just blow it up!!!
You used to be good back in the day, you and Hammer, but you two just gone garbage. Please, do us a favor and stop making music.
And how did Taina get on this CD?
Will, this has to be the worst CD ever, besides MC Hammer's Active Duty. I mean, no body likes your raps. I don't know whats up with these other guys.
Will Smith Coming Back!
Will Smith Needs to Stay Back!!! You know most people didn't even know this CD was coming out?
You're embarrassing the rap world. Your beats are fruity and your rhymes are garbage. I mean, "I Gotta Go Home"
"You got me baking, I'm about to make a mistaken", what kind of rhyme. You gotta invent new words Will???
"Came to get my groove on, not to get my groove back..."
What's up with these goofy Jamaican people at the end of the song???
That's the most stupidest thing I've ever heard!!!!
Will, Your lyrics suck!!!!
1000 Kisses: What is this?
"I woke up this morning, look at ya picture
and though when I was gonna get with ya!"
Will's already with Jada!!!! Think of something else, man!!!
How in the world is Tra - Knox, he is terrible, he ruins every song!!!
Will, stick with Acting!!!!!!!!!
Great CD.
This is one of the best cd's Will has ever made. If you like Will Smith and you don't have this album, get this one today! It's also clean and talented rap music. And a lot of the tracks are not really rap, they're real music! This album even has "Black Suits Comin' (Nod Ya Head)" from "Men In Black 2" on it. So get it today. You'll Love it!
Even though his last CD, Willennium, failed to sell as well as 1997's Big Willie Style, Smith's G-rated ladies (and family) man persona is infectious, even when he's coasting a bit on his well-earned rep. Such is the case on this exuberant but somewhat pedestrian CD. Smith gives it his all on cuts like the hip-shaking "Block Party" and the jittery "Gotta Go Home," but the slickly produced tales of good times and wicked women are way too familiar. Luckily, Smith stretches a bit with the heavy dose of R&B delivered by his vocal protégé Tra-Knox and on the rock-injected single (and promo tool for the film Men in Black II) "Black Suits Comin' (Nod Ya Head)." The stinging guitars give Smith an excuse to strut, and the ensuing bravado gives him an edge he often lacks. --Amy Linden
